| Commerical 10 ml disposable polypropylene syringes may be used
for isotopic equilibration in delta 018 determinations in water samples.
The procedure involves adding concentrated H2SO4 without contaminating
the upper internal surface of the syringe, placing the piston in the
cylinder without touching the acid, and pulling the sample of water
into the cylinder. After the sample is shaken, the water volume is
adjusted to 3.0 ml, CO2 is inserted to 10 ml, and the syringes placed
in a heated water bath overnight. One technician can prepare 50 samples
in 2 hours. |
